Grammys 2017: Drake wins ‘Best Rap Song’ and ‘Best Rap Performance’
But Adele – who took home five gongs from the awards night – triumphed in the category thanks to 25, beating Justin Bieber‘s Purpose, Sturgill Simpson‘s A Sailor’s Guide To Earth, and Beyonce‘s Lemonade.
‘I can’t possibly accept this award, and I’m very humbled, I’m very grateful but the artiste of my life is Beyonce,’ she said while receiving her award.
‘The Lemonade album was just so monumental, Beyoncé. It was so monumental and well thought-out and beautiful and soul-bearing… we appreciate that. All of us artists here adore you. You are our light.’
Meanwhile, Wizkid ditched the Grammys show for Runtown’s concert that took place in London.
Drake, who won the Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for ‘Hotline Bling’, was also missing from the 59th Grammys due to his ongoing tour in Manchester, England.
Wizkid may have failed to win his first ever Grammy Award, but he’s already won in Nigeria and Africa for making the nominations list for a job well done in 2016.
As a result, he joins legendary Nigerian musicians, Femi Kuti and King Sunny Ade in the league of Nigerians who have received Grammy nominations.
South African group, Ladysmith Black Mambazo also lost in the Best World Music Album category to Yo-Yo Ma & The Silk Road Ensemble (Sing Me Home).
The group has won four of the 20 nominations received since 1988.
